The Story of Storm Armour
Storm Armour came to life over seven and a half years ago during Hurricane Irma in Miami. Our founder’s wife insisted that he evacuate Miami, fearing a tsunami. Luckily for my family and me, we got to stay in his house because we didn’t have a generator. It worked out for both of us, to say the least.
While he was in New York escaping the so-called tsunami, we discovered a significant problem in his house, which had numerous sliding glass doors. During severe weather, wind and water overwhelmed the tracks of the sliding doors. Normally, water flows in and out of the tracks, but during a storm, it gets pushed in by the wind, causing massive damage. Thankfully, we were there to act as his unofficial fire rescue crew, managing the water and preventing what could have been millions of dollars in damages.
When he returned, he realized this issue wasn’t just his but a widespread problem for anyone dealing with water intrusion during storms. A few weeks later, he met with Todd Glazer, the largest real estate developer in Florida, and, together with a team of engineers, scientists, and data experts, they decided to tackle the problem head-on. Over seven years, they developed what is now known as Storm Armour.
Storm Armour was tested multiple times at one of the country’s leading hurricane centers at Florida International University. About two and a half years ago, it was perfected to repel 97% of water intrusion through sliding glass door tracks.
To clarify, you could have the best, brand-new sliding glass doors on the market, but all sliding doors face the same issue: water intrusion through the tracks. This problem affects everyone—from homeowners to condo residents—with damages ranging from electrical and mold issues to structural problems.
Condo owners face an even bigger challenge because water intrusion in one unit can cascade to others below, creating a domino effect. This has become a massive issue in Florida, where rising insurance costs and policy changes have condo prices plummeting. Yet, window manufacturers avoid addressing the problem directly, even excluding track-related issues from warranties because they have no solution—until now.
Recent hurricanes, like Milton and Helene, highlighted this problem. Over 80% of insurance claims in condos were due to water intrusion through tracks, not flooding. This issue grows more severe the higher up you go in a building because wind and water intensify with elevation. Ironically, the higher you go, the more expensive the unit and the greater the risk.
Storm Armour is a practical, affordable solution. Unlike sandbags, which are cumbersome, short-lived, and environmentally problematic, Storm Armour is easy to use, lasts about five years, and costs about the same.
Storm Armour’s mission goes beyond sales. For every two units sold, we donate one to a family in need, because this problem isn’t exclusive to luxury properties—it affects everyone.
Storm Armour offers a real solution to a longstanding problem that manufacturers have ignored. There are pending insurance credits in Florida that may offset much of the cost, but even without them, Storm Armour is a cost-effective way to protect homes, condos, and communities.
This product was born out of necessity, created by people who’ve faced the same challenges. We’re here not just to provide a solution but to educate others about water intrusion and how to mitigate its risks.
