FAQ

I already have hurricane-rated sliding glass doors. Why do I need StormArmour®?

Hurricane-rated or not, sliding doors are built with weep holes that allow water that has entered to drain out. In high wind conditions, these weep holes do not function properly. This is because high winds create a vacuum effect that draws water under sliding door tracks. StormArmour® significantly decreases the amount of water that reaches your sliding door tracks. This innovative device is made up of two components: the StormArmour® Exterior Guard and the StormArmour® Internal Seal. These components work together seamlessly to form a comprehensive solution that effectively prevents up to 99% of water intrusion.

How is StormArmour® better than sandbags or other traditional methods?

Most methods block entry and exit ways, preventing you from getting in or out of the building once the bags are in place. Traditional methods like sandbags are challenging to transport and require significant physical effort to set up, making them impractical for individuals with limited mobility or physical capabilities. Sandbags are difficult to store, transport, and deploy quickly. Most methods can only be used once and are wasteful.

Sliding glass doors properly installed with StormArmour® allow normal functionality of the door. The Exterior Shield and Open Cell Foam Wedge pieces are reusable and the Interior Shield is cost-effective to replace. StormArmour® is easy to install and lightweight for easy storage.

Do I keep StormArmour® on my doors all the time?

No. StormArmour® should only be used in anticipation of and during a severe weather event.

How do I store the kit when I’m not using it?

For optimal storage, we recommend keeping the kit in a cool, dry location when not in use. Additionally, please refer to the packaging for further instructions to ensure proper care and maintenance. Following these guidelines will help preserve the kit’s quality and functionality for your convenience.

How long will my StormArmour® system last?

StormArmour® can endure multiple severe weather events but must be replaced approximately every five years. The StormArmour® Exterior Guard can be used repeatedly over this period of time, providing long-lasting protection against water intrusion during severe weather events. However, the StormArmour® Internal Seal is designed for single use only, meaning it needs to be replaced after each application, regardless of whether a storm occurs or the severity of the weather. Fortunately, this component is very inexpensive, making it easy and affordable to replace as needed for your continued peace of mind and protection.

If I have shutters for my sliding glass doors, do I still need StormAmour®, and will StormAmour® be compatible with shutters?

Yes, you still need StormArmour®—even if you have shutters. While shutters protect against wind and flying debris, they do not stop water intrusion through the tracks of sliding glass doors, which is one of the most common sources of damage during hurricanes and severe storms. StormArmour® is specifically designed to prevent this type of water entry and works in conjunction with your existing shutters.

StormArmour® is low-profile and installs directly onto the door tracks, making it compatible with most shutter systems, including accordion and roll-down shutters. It adds a critical layer of protection to help safeguard your home from costly water damage that shutters alone cannot prevent.
